(More customer reviews)I have been building a robot and wanted a decent power supply to test out components. I bought this one, as most of you know that are shopping for these because it was the most affordable. (or should I say cheap?) I started out by testing a motor I got that was rated for 13 amps at 12 volts. The motor ran for a few seconds and then I see FIRE on the circuit board in the amplifier. FIRE.. I couldn't believe it. Running a motor rated for 13 amps under NO load set something internal on fire. And here is the scary part. It still is running as far as I can tell. But something is fried. Very scary.
Here is my second issue. I am no rocket scientist when it comes to electronics, but I have done my fair share of projects and know 50 amps is quite a bit. So when I took the lid off the amp to check it, all the wiring is of such a small gauge, it's insulting. If this unit is rated for fifty amps, I am guessing the internal components should be up to snuff. and they aren't. So now that I know this I realize I didn't get a great deal for a nice power supply, I paid FULL price for a cheap useless power supply. I wish I could have a second chance.
So my advice for those of you that need this item, bite the bullet and get a better supply. If you are looking for a 50 amp supply, you need it to be good and this is not your component. If you need it for light duty, it should be okay, but if you need light duty, why on earth would you be getting a fifty amp supply?
