(More customer reviews)I bought the Uniden USB-1 programming cable to complement my Uniden BCD-396XT digital trunktracker scanner. It did not come with a driver, so I searched the 'net for an appropriate driver, loaded it, and after that, and also after installing appropriate software (I chose Freescan), I installed it without any problems whatsoever (Freescan even auto-searches for an open COM port).
Does it work? Yes indeed; the cable itself is sturdy, well engineered, and seems to be immune to inferference from the computer. With this cable hooked in to my scanner, I can not only program it whenever I want, but can also control the scanner through it! What an incredible luxury to do that, in a stationary or mobile environment (autologging when traveling is an incredible tool).
Sure, you can cobble together your own cable from bits and pieces, but I think this cable was money well spent; YMMV of course .
